District 6710 Speech Contest FAQs
When and where is the Speech Contest Final?
The Speech Contest Final (which is held after the Local/Club, Sectional, and Regional Contests) is held at the Annual District Conference in May.
This year’s District Conference will be held in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The District Final Speech Contest will be held during the Conference between Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th.
What are the Contest Sections/Levels?
The Club Contest organizational levels are identical to prior contests. There are four stages to the District’s Speech Contest: Local/Club, Sectional, Regional, and District.
The District is divided into six Sections (which are different from the 12 Club Areas the Assistant Governor assigned) for the Speech Contest. Each Section is divided into two Divisions — Division A and Division B. The Divisions hold the Local/Club level Contests. The Regionals are determined from the six Sectional Contests.

When can students sign up?
It is suggested that all interested students enter the contest before the Holiday/Winter Break to avoid the possibility of missing their local club’s contest, as some clubs like to hold their contest in January. What are the prize amounts, and who determines them?
The prize structure is noted on the contest organizational chart, which is included in the contest packet. Prize amounts are standardized at the base levels, but individual clubs maysupply additional prizes if there are more than three contestants.
Where can I find the Contest Schedule and Organizational Chart?
The Contest Schedule and Organizational Chart is included in the Speech Packet. The schedule and chart issued is preliminary. It is suggested that your contest chair or coordinator check the District website frequently for updates. An article will also be included in the club’s monthly District Governor’s newsletter, “The Spectrum.” Be sure to check with your club and the website frequently. Contest dates, times, and locations have been known to change.
How do I know what my Local and Sectional Contests are?
Your Local and Sectional Contests are determined by your location. Your Local Contest is held at the closest Rotary Club to you that is hosting a contest. Check your Speech Packet or the chart above to see where your closest Local Clubs and Sectional Divisions are.
The District Speech Contest Coordinator and Regional Coordinators reserve the right to reassign students to clubs that have openings to balance competitions and avoid overload on certain clubs. Although this may be slightly inconveinent for some students, it should improve their chances and create a more equitable overall contest.
Can I compete in the Speech Contest if a relative or family member is in my Local Club?
Yes, students can compete in a club contest in which their parent or relative is a member, providing neither parent nor relative participates in any way in the contest. Parents and relatives are allowed to attend the contest.
What should I do if I need assistance?
It is important to stay in touch with the clubs to make sure they follow guidelines, report their contest results, and assist in any way possible. Sometimes, the clubs might need assistance for Sectional and Regional contests.
If you have any questions or concerns, talk with your local club. Generally, emails and phone calls to the clubs will be sufficient to help you or get you into contact with the local coordinator who can.
